The girls soccer team lost to Middletown 2-0 Monday and was eliminated from the state Class LL tournament.
The boys soccer team lost Friday to Naugatuck in the first round of the state tournament.
The girls won but their first-round game — which also was against Naugatuck. Here’s an account of the girls game from Hannah Mackewicz:
The Manchester High School girls soccer team played their first state tournament game Friday, November 9th against Naugatuck at the Farmington Soccer Arena. Despite the cold weather, our girls played their best and came out on top with a 2-1 victory. A quick first goal was scored by junior, Ashley Feshler in the first couple of minutes. Naugatuck scored their only goal later in the first half. Naugatuck received a free kick due to a handball right outside the 18 and they managed to put it in the net after a battle with our defense against their offense in the box. Naugatuck’s goal in the first half is what really motivated the MHS girls to go back into the second half fired up and ready to take home a victory. Our second goal was scored by junior Anna Manser with an assist by freshman Steph Sanchez in the second half. Sophomore goalie Abby Costa made amazing saves on almost all the shots taken on her only letting in one. Abby, just coming off of an injury makes MHS a stronger team in these playoffs. The girls play their next tournament game on Monday, November 11th in Middletown at 2:00. Come out and support your Lady Indians!
